Disqualification from Driving
If a driver accumulates 12 points on their licence within 3 years, they will be disqualified from driving for 6 months; after that period, their licence is returned and all the points are removed. However, this is not the only way to get disqualified from driving.
Speeding is another way of getting disqualified from driving, though this generally depends on how fast you were going – anything over 145% of the speed limit is likely to result in a disqualification. Here are some estimations:
Speed Limit |
Banning Speed |
| 30 mph | In excess of 51 mph |
| 40 mph | In excess of 66 mph |
| 50 mph | In excess of 75 mph |
| 60 mph | In excess of 85 mph |
| 70 mph | In excess of 100 mph |
Please be aware, however, that there are situations when bans occur at lower speeds than those show; these are just an indication.
As has already been mentioned in this blog, drink driving also carries a mandatory disqualification period of 12 months, unless motoring solicitors can prove you have special circumstances that should result in a shorter disqualification. In some cases, you may even be required to take an extended test before your licence is returned to you!
